Employment, Work Trade, and WWOOFing Opportunities

If you are ready for a season of hard work on a great team in an absurdly beautiful environment, we’d love for you to join us at Doe Bay! We’re a 38-acre piece of bliss on Orcas Island that will make you happy to stay a season and keen to return for another or even stay through the year! Recruiting for the summer begins in early spring for the following departments:

We give priority to people who are capable of staying from mid-May through September (or at least Labor Day) and who have experience in the lodging/restaurant industry. Most positions are seasonal, but we’re always happy to consider people through the off-season depending on the fit and level of need.

Most entry level positions with onsite housing start at minimum wage ($11.50/hr in the state of Washington).  Hourly wage may increase with experience.

Employees will have free access to the soaking tubs/sauna, discounts at the Café, General Store, Yoga, Massage, and free kayaking with Shearwater Kayak Tours on a space available basis. Employees can also volunteer in our incredible garden in exchange for produce or eggs. Working at Doe Bay is a chance to be part of a superstar-fun community.

Housing is limited  but available for a nominal fee. Platform tent camping is available free of charge, along with a limited number of dorm-style housing units ranging from $50-$200 per month. We also require a housing deposit of $200 (tents) to $400 (dorm), with the potential of a full refund after completion of your work commitment as an employee in good standing. There are shower houses, a staff kitchen, free WiFi, and a staff lounge available for use.

All applicants should be legally authorized to work in the United States, 21 years or older, and look forward to a memorable summer.  We are not sponsoring H2B Visas at this time.

Doe Bay is pleased to welcome individuals to live, learn, and work at our island resort. Individuals interested in garden internships or a personalized work trade arrangement are encouraged to submit an application (see below). Early inquires are recommended, and only serious applicants are considered.

Work Trade Program

Opportunities exist to get involved in a variety of different projects depending on your skill level and the needs of the resort. As a Work Trader at Doe Bay, your primary job functions might include but are not limited to: weeding, care and maintenance of landscaped areas, maintenance and development of campsites and trails, basic construction projects, general labor, and grounds work .

In exchange for 30 hours per week, Work Traders receive accommodations (tenting platform in the summer and a rustic shared cabin in the winter) and a weekly stipend of $100 for use in the Doe Bay Cafe and General Store (credit – not cash).

Work-Trade prospects can fill out the Volunteer Application (PDF) and send it to the facilities manager at facilities@doebay.com

WWOOF Program

We are an affiliated WWOOF site (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) and the majority of our garden volunteers come to Doe Bay as WWOOFers. They work closely with the garden manager, and have the opportunity to manage their own small plot in the garden as a learning tool. The work is also part time, leaving open days in the week to explore other interests on the island, and beyond.

The WWOOF Program is ideal for those wanting to volunteer with a 2-3 month commitment. Early inquires are recommended, and only serious applicants are considered. In order to be considered for a WWOOF position, the individual must be a WWOOF member.

To sign up or find more details about WWOOF opportunities at Doe Bay (full details are only available to WWOOF members), please visit the WWOOF-USA site (http://www.wwoofusa.org/).
