6 Essential Places to Eat & Drink on Orcas Island

Happy Campers: Best Places to Go Yurt Camping in WA

Red Tricycle, May 2015

Here’s what we think is super cool about yurt camping:
1. You don’t have to set up a tent. Need we say more?

2. Most yurts come with furniture – bunk beds with mattresses and sometimes a small couch and/or a small table. You bring your own bedding and other camping accessories.

3. Yurts often have a door that locks, which is great for stashing your goods while you’re out exploring. And, your food tucked away from curious wildlife.

4. If a summer rain shower hits unexpectedly overnight, you won’t wake up to a soggy tent… and a soggy family.

In the Northwest, 3 Trips, Planned by Others

Our Summer Dinners

A Sweet Spoonful, July 2014

We stayed in a little cabin at Doe Bay (I can’t wait to return and stay in a yurt!) where we read a lot on the porch, soaked in the hot springs, and had lazy mornings the likes of which I haven’t seen in some time. … Around noon, the fog would burn off to reveal stunningly blue skies and we’d pick up and stumble into the day. We hiked Turtleback Ridge, drove to the top of Mount Constitution, and rented paddle boats at Moran State Park. There was ice cream and naps and a lot of quiet. We both settled in so quickly that we ended up booking one additional night because we couldn’t bear to head home just yet.

Inns you can paddle and sail to: Doe Bay Resort & Retreat, Orcas Island Washington

Everyone’s Travel Club, May 2013

Imagine: a seaside cabin overlooking a calm bay. Island mountains in the distance. You wake up to the sounds of songbirds in the surrounding forest and head down for a morning soak in a hot tub next to a rushing waterfall. You spend the day beach-combing, relaxing, swimming, and maybe take a kayak tour of the surrounding area. Eat dinner at a great farm-to-table (the farm is on the property) restaurant. Go to sleep. Wake up, repeat. Tell yourself that this is normal.
